چکیده
P a t i e n t s 239 patients > 18 years of age who had ≥ 1 positive candida culture from blood or another sterile site in the past 4 days, and ≥ 1 clinical sign of infection in the past 2 days (fever, hypothermia, or hypotension) or signs of inflammation at a candida-infected site. Exclusion criteria included suspected endocarditis, osteomyelitis, or meningitis; and receipt of antifungal therapy > 2 days. 224 patients (94%) (median age 55 y, 56% men) were included in the modified intention-totreat analysis (documented diagnosis of invasive candidiasis and receipt of study treatment ≥ 1 d). All patients were included in the safety analysis.

A randomized, double-blind, prospective study of caspofungin vs. amphotericin B for the treatment of invasive candidiasis in newborn infants.
BACKGROUND Caspofungin is an echinocandin agent with fungicidal activity against Candida species. OBJECTIVE To assess the efficacy, safety and tolerability of caspofungin relative to amphotericin B in neonates with invasive candidiasis. PATIENTS AND METHODS Thirty-two neonates with invasive candidiasis were randomly assigned to receive either caspofungin (n = 15) or amphotericin B (n = 17)....
متن کاملComparison of caspofungin and amphotericin B for invasive candidiasis.
BACKGROUND Caspofungin is an echinocandin agent with fungicidal activity against candida species. We performed a double-blind trial to compare caspofungin with amphotericin B deoxycholate for the primary treatment of invasive candidiasis. METHODS We enrolled patients who had clinical evidence of infection and a positive culture for candida species from blood or another site. Patients were str...
متن کاملCaspofungin: the first representative of a new antifungal class.
Caspofungin (MK-0991; L-743,872) belongs to the echinocandin family, a new class of antifungal agents that act on the fungal cell wall by inhibiting glucan synthesis. Data in vitro, and experimental studies, have demonstrated that caspofungin has antifungal activity against yeasts of the genus Candida (including isolates resistant to azoles and amphotericin B), several species of filamentous fu...
متن کاملCaspofungin: a major breakthrough in treatment of systemic fungal infections.
Invasive fungal infections are difficult to eradicate especially in immuno-compromised host. Amphotericin B and voriconazole have been the mainstay of treatment but both have significant toxicity. Caspofungin belongs to a new class of antifungal agents, the echinocandins. It acts on the fungal cell wall by selective inhibition of beta-(1,3)-D-glucan syntheses, which is not present in mammalian ...
متن کاملNeonatal liver abscesses due to Candida infection effectively treated with caspofungin.
UNLABELLED Candidiasis is relatively frequent in neonatal and pediatric intensive care units (ICUs), particularly in preterm infants less than 28 weeks of gestational age. Neonatal candidiasis shows high mortality and is often associated to poor neurodevelopmental prognosis in survivor patients. Amphotericin B and fluconazole are the first choice drugs for the treatment of neonatal candidiasis....
